CANNABIS AT WORK CONFERENCE CALGARY

Sheraton Cavalier Calgary Hotel
2620 32 Ave NE

You can register for day one, or day one and two combined. Space is limited on day two.
Medical Cannabis and the impending legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada can have great implications on our workplaces.  Employers need to ensure they are educated on how to manage both medical and recreational use by employees.  The Cannabis at Work Conference brings together a team of workplace experts to ensure you have the tools to mitigate risk in your organization.

Day One: Conference (8:00am-4:30pm):  Managing medical marijuana in the workplace is complex and requires specialized knowledge of medical cannabis, workplace policy and case law. Approaching recreational legalization adds another layer of challenges. There are not only federal regulations but also provincial and municipal regulations that employers will need to be aware of.

OUR  DAY ONE AGENDA INCLUDES:

8:45-10:00 am - Dr Francois Halle BSc, M.D, MSc, MBA is the co-founder and Senior Medical Office of Clinical Cannabis Consulting Group. Dr Halle will help to demystify medical cannabis and will be talking about the basics of Cannabinoid Therapy.

10:30am-12:00pm - Join representatives from the Alberta Cannabis Secretariat, Alberta Labour and the City of Calgary to learn about municipal and provincial cannabis regulations. Following the updates these representatives will participate in a panel to answer your questions about the legalization and the Alberta Cannabis Framework.

12:45-1:45 pm - Pooja Gandhi is Director, Operations at SureHire Occupational Testing and Kelsey Saunders is the Results Department Team Lead. Pooja & Kelsey will be providing an overview of Reasonable Suspicion and steps employers can take to manage Cannabis in the workplace.

1:45-3:00 pm - Jenelle Butler is an Associate from Brownlee LLP's Employment & Labour Practice group. Jenelle will join us and will be reviewing case law to shed light on what the courts are saying about managing medical and recreational cannabis in the workplace.

3:30-4:30 pm - Jason Fleming is the Director of Human Resources for MedReleaf Corp, a Licensed Producer in Canada. Jason will provide tips to employers on how to integrate Cannabis in the workplace and information on what benefits providers have been doing to cover medical cannabis for consumers.

Day Two: Master Class (10:00am-3:30pm): The Master Class is a small group, facilitated "working" class. SPACE IS LIMITED. In this workshop we will do a deep dive on your Drug & Alcohol Policy to ensure it is cannabis compliant. Participants will leave with a new draft of their policy. Participants will also leave with business processes for managing medical and recreational cannabis disclosures. During the working class, participants will (with the assistance of the facilitator):

  • Identify gaps in their current policy; deconstruct their Drug & Alcohol policy
  • Identify what needs to be added or changed in their current policy; rebuild draft policy
  • Create draft of internal procedures for managing cannabis disclosures
  • Create a communication and education plan; identify steps to roll out new policy

Participants must bring (electronically or physical copies) of their Drug & Alcohol policy, internal procedures on drug testing or other relevant polices/procedures/directives.
